Rated Roode Awakening....

INFEST (22/02/08)

Before the show gets underway we are shown highlights from last week as things get heated between Scott Steiner and Rhino, ending with Steiner sending Rhino to the hospital after a backstage assault. Christopher Daniels picked up a win over Carlito, while Rated Roode defeated Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt after a distraction by the Machineguns. Kazarian beat James Storm only to become a victim of a two on one after the interference of MVP, until CM Punk made the save. And an interview with Chris Jericho was interrupted by Rated Roode and things got physical, until Batista came to even the odds and make a big announcement. As the highlights come to an end we roll to the opening credits to the theme song ‘Enemy’ by Fozzy.

As the show goes live to the world amidst an explosion of pyro and light, the cameras pan around the sold out arena as the crowd is awash with replica t-shirts and signs of all the Infest superstars.

We then join the ‘Professor’ Mike Tenay & JBL at ringside. “Folks welcome to the latest edition of Infest, and we are just two days away from our latest PPV spectacular…..the last stop before Immortality…..Destiny! Three matches have been announced so far, but one has been thrown into jeopardy after the actions of a certain Scott Steiner last week. We can tell you that Rhino has suffered a neck injury which isn’t too threatening, but with his history of a broken neck, he has been stopped from competing by Dr Andrews for the time being. With that in mind, we will have to see what our General Manager will do, but our best wishes certainly go with Rhino.” “Tenay…..you piss of ‘Big Poppa Pump’ and you pay the price.” “Moving on, we can tell you that tonight there will be tag team action, as James Storm and MVP are in action, as are CM Punk and Kazarian. Plus tonight is deadline night……Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt must name a partner tonight, or compete in a handicap match at Destiny. And if that isn’t enough….how about this for a main event. In his debut match here on Infest….Y2J Chris Jericho will go one on one….with the World Heavyweight Champion Edge!!!” “Tenay, with PPV Sunday just round the corner, we deliver a huge match to our loyal fans, and it gives Edge the chance to put Jericho in his place and show him who runs things round here!!” “It is certainly set to be an entertaining night, but as we get started we have Christy Hemme standing outside the General Manager’s office.”

Backstage we then join Christy Hemme standing outside the General Manager’s Office. “I have been waiting here for a little while now, hoping to get a word with Shane McMahon and find out his plans for the Rhino match at Destiny. I understand he has been busy with deals all day, and….” But at that moment the door opens and Jonathan Coachman walks out, closing it behind him. “Coach…..can you tell us what Shane has decided to do about Rhino’s match at Destiny?” “Christy….first of all it’s Mr McMahon. Secondly, Mr McMahon is finalising some plans and will make an announcement later on. But I can tell you that he has booked a fourth match for this Sunday, and it will see James Storm and MVP take on CM Punk and Kazarian. Now if you will excuse me, I have work to do.” With that he buttons up his suit jacket and walks off.

James Storm w/Jackie Moore & MVP vs. Sharkboy & Val Venis

The match is an interesting one, with the agility of Sharkboy and experience of Venis proving a good blend. They look strong in the early going as Venis hits n atomic drop on Storm, and Sharkboy then connects with a springboard dropkick. But the momentum shifts when Sharkboy hit’s the ropes only for MVP to connect with a shot to the back of the head. As Sharkboy then turns to confront him, MVP holds his hands up in innocence, as Storm then connects with a clothesline from behind. They then isolate Sharkboy and work him over until he finally makes a tag. A valiant effort from Venis sees him bring his team back into the match, but it is to no avail as MVP eventually puts Sharkboy away with the Playmaker for the win.

Backstage we then join Christy Hemme who is standing with Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt. “Guys, tonight is deadline night. If you don’t announce a third partner, then your match this Sunday at Destiny will be a handicap match. So tell us, have you found someone?” Lethal is the one to speak. “Christy, you don’t have to worry about us. Whether there is three of us, or just the two of us……we will walk out of Destiny victorious, and one of us will be going to Immortality to challenge for the X Division Championship!” Dutt though doesn’t look so confident. “Jay….I thought you had found someone? Have you not seen the past two weeks……..a handicap match will not be easy.” “Relax Sonjay…….take a few deep breaths….everything is under control.” With that he leaves, and eventually is followed by a hesitant Sonjay.

We are then shown a promotional video for Immortality with the following voice over: “In the world’s greatest arena, Madison Square Garden; with the worlds most elite superstars from Universal Championship Wrestling; millions of fans around the world will tune in……..Sunday March 30th………as Meltdown and Infest seek to reach…..Immortality!!”

Jonny Devine vs. Scott Steiner

With both men in the ring, Devine hit’s the ropes and attempts a shoulder block, but Steiner stays on his feet and the X Division star falls to the mat. He then tries again, but Steiner once more stands tall. Then on the third attempt Steiner fires up and takes Devine down with a heavy clothesline. Steiner then goes to work, rocking Devine with some heavy rights before taking him down with a belly to belly suplex. Steiner dominates, until Devine sees an opening and connects with some forearm shots followed by a running kick to the head. But despite his best efforts, in the end the power and strength of Steiner win out as he drops Devine to the mat with a reverse DDT. But instead of going for the pin, he locks Devine in the Steiner Recliner, giving him no option but to tap out. Ref Mark Johnson then raises his hand in victory, before Steiner grabs hold of a mic. “Last week……Rhino learnt that you don’t screw with ‘Big Poppa Pump’….unless you are one of my freaks. He failed to learn the basic fact that if you get in my face….I will break yours. Just ask guys like DDP…..or Stevie Ray……guys whose careers I have ended courtesy of a trip to the hospital. But that raises questions about Destiny this Sunday. Well Rhino….I suggest that if you can drag yourself from your hospital bed then do so….so that I can finish what I have started!!!” But at that moment Shane McMahon appears on the big screen. “Scott……..I hate to disappoint you…..and all these fans….but Rhino is not medically cleared to compete at Destiny. But that doesn’t mean you now have the night off. So I suggest you turn up to that ring this Sunday ready to compete…..and I will find you an opponent that these fans would love to see put you in your place. See you on Sunday Scotty!!” With that the transmission ends and we can see an unimpressed Steiner mouthing off to Johnson.

Backstage we then join Christy Hemme who is standing with CM Punk and Kazarian. Guys, at the start of the show we heard from Shane McMahon that this Sunday at Destiny you will be facing off against James Storm and MVP, who were victorious earlier tonight. Now Punk, for you this is a much more personal issue between you and James Storm, but with MVP getting involved are you happy that Kazarian is on your side?” “Christy…….things between me and Storm have been complicated from the start…..and I won’t deny that I have a lesson or two I would like to teach his drunken ass….but apparently MVP decided that it also had to include him. And when I was in a tricky situation…..Kazarian stepped up and came to my aid. He put himself on offer to help me out……and I appreciate that. Do I have any issues with him being my partner? Absolutely none.” Kazarian then takes over. “What you are looking at here are two hungry and talented young guys….a theme that runs through the Infest roster. Tonight we tem for the first time….and we show the whole world what we are capable of. Then this Sunday……let’s just say it will be time for us to put a couple of punks…….the one by my side not included……in their place!” With that that low five and make their exit. Christy then hands over to Mike Tenay…

Back at the announce table, Mike Tenay is in full flow. “Folks, let me remind you that tonight in our Main Event we will have the in ring debut of Chris Jericho…..going one on one with none other then World Heavyweight Champion Edge. It is se…….wait I’m getting word there is some commotion in the back. Can we get a camera there? Can we see what is going on?”

After a pause we cut to the back where we see Batista on the floor amongst a pile of loose piping. He is conscious but seems in a lot of pain, as Road Agents and EMT’s gather round him trying to help. Coach is also there and is quizzing everyone as to what has happened, and who was to blame. Jericho then turns up at the scene to lend a hand to the trainers as Batista mumbles that he didn’t see who done it. Amid these scenes Mike Tenay tells us that they will keep us up to date with the situation.

CM Punk & Kazarian vs. Basham & Damaja

The match has a quick start, with the team of Punk and Kazarian showing off their abilities, with Punk hitting several knee shots to Damaja and then holding him across his knee, as Kazarian springs over the top rope and lands with a leg drop. The continue to look like a well oiled machine until Basham and Damaja get their power game into play. As Kazarian hit’s the ropes, Basham grabs hold of his hair, enabling Damaja to move in and connect with a hard clothesline. They then isolate him in the corner, working him over as he tries desperately to bring in his partner. Eventually he makes the tag and a fresh Punk comes in to clear the ring. In the end Kazarian flies over the top rope and lands with a splash on Damaja, while in the ring Punk hit’s the GTS for the victory. But as they celebrate we see James Storm and MVP appear on the ramp. Punk and Kazarian beckon them to come in, and after a brief discussion Storm and MVP walk down the rest of the ramp to ringside. But as they go to enter, both men then back off and say they will wait until Sunday, backing up the ramp.

We then join Christy Hemme as she is in the medical room with Jericho, the doctor and Batista who is sitting on a medical bed. “Doctor….just how bad is Batista?” “Well Christy, he has suffered some bad bruising to the ribs but thankfully that is the worst of it. His night is done….but he will be fit to compete at Destiny this Sunday.” “Well that is good news. Batista….were you able to get a look at your attacker?” Batista takes a moment before replying. “A look….no. But I have a pretty good idea who is to blame.” Jericho then takes over. “So do I……and I will take care of it later on tonight. For now….you just rest up and make sure you are ready to go Sunday. Go home and I will call you tomorrow.” “Go home! I’m going nowhere. I said I would have your back tonight..…and I am a man of my word. You go out and do what you do best….don’t worry about me.” Jericho then pats him on the shoulder before leaving as Christy tends to Batista.

We are then reminded that the next time UCW is live on PPV, Meltdown and Infest combine to bring you Destiny, Sunday 24th February 2008.

‘EVERYDAY IN MY LIFE!’ The arena breaks out in boo’s as X Division Champion AJ Styles makes his way to the ring accompanied by the Motor City Machineguns and their mentor Kevin Nash. As they enter the ring, AJ takes hold of a mic. “In just two days time the latest UCW PPV takes place….Destiny. Now it is quite an apt title because my match this Sunday could decide the destiny for one of the five other men involved…..because should they pick up the pin….then they will go on to face me for my X Division Championship at Immortality. Now there are two things that I can guarantee…….the first is that yours truly will be competing on the grandest stage of them all.…Immortality because I hold the gold!! The second……is that it won’t be against anyone from my match this Sunday because I will be the one making the pin!! Why? Because I am simply….phenomenal!!!” Shelley and Sabin take offence and step forward, only for Nash to pull them back. “But despite this fact….the match still has to take place….and the question is how many opponents we will be facing. The deadline is up….so Jay and Sonjay.…it is time for you to unveil your partner…..or show the world that you couldn’t find a single soul to help!!”

‘OOH YEEAH!’ The crowd then get to their feet as Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt come out, stopping halfway down the ramp as Lethal is ready to speak. “AJ….I think we have all heard quite enough of your crap….even your own partners look like they want a piece of you!!” “At least I have two partners Jay. From where i am standing.......there are only two of you…which means this Sunday is going to be a handicap match!!” “Hold on right there AJ. There may be only two of us standing here….but I said I had it covered…..and I don’t lie. This Sunday was scheduled to be a six man tag….and a six man tag it is going to be….because we have a partner!” Suddenly the lights go out…….

‘FALLEN ANGEL!’ A spotlight then shines on the stage as we see the eerie figure of Raven, decked in his white suit and top hat, with the bottom half of his face covered. He comes to a stop and strikes his signature pose. Suddenly the lights come back up and Christopher Daniels is in the ring. He starts to offload with shots to everyone insight and is quickly joined by Dutt and Lethal as a six man brawl ensues. Nash then gets involved, and as bodies scatter, he grabs hold of Daniels looking for a Chokeslam. But Raven has rolled into the ring, and he cracks Nash in the back with a kendo stick. Nash then lets go and turns, only for Raven to connect with a kendo shot to the head, causing Nash to stumble back to the ropes. Nash then climbs to the outside and joins AJ, Sabin and Shelley on the ramp as the men unite in the ring, with Lethal once again picking up a mic. “See you at Destiny!!!!”

Backstage we then see Christy Hemme standing with Robert Roode. “Robert.…in just a few minutes your partner this Sunday…World Heavyweight Champion Edge….faces Chris Jericho in tonight’s main event. But after what happened to Batista tonight…..rumours are that the two of you had something to do with it.” “You are blaming me? Personally I’m offended. I am a well respected Champion Christy…..the fastest rising star in UCW. I don’t need to jump someone from behind to go ahead….and neither does Edge. Rated Roode are the new thing in this business…..and we will prove on Sunday that not only are we dominant as singles….but as a team too. Now unless you have anything else to accuse me of….I’m a very busy man!!” With that he makes his exit.

We then join Mike Tenay & JBL at the announce table. “Folks, it certainly has been an interesting night….and Destiny is really starting to shape up nicely! Let us just remind you of the card….” “Tenay….we have got James Storm and MVP taking on CM Punk and Kazarian……plus X Division Champion AJ Styles and the Motor City Machineguns in a six man tag match against Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and as we discovered earlier…Christopher Daniels.” “John we were also scheduled to see Rhino versus Scott Steiner….but after Steiner’s actions Rhino is not able to compete. We have though been promised a replacement to face ‘Big Poppa Pump’ this Sunday. And in our main event we will see the self proclaimed Rated Roode of world Heavyweight Champion Edge and Robert Roode versus number one contender Batista and Chris Jericho. But that is Sunday, and tonight is not quite over yet…because it is now time for our main event….and the Infest in-ring debut of Chris Jericho as he takes on World Heavyweight Champion Edge. So let us delay no longer!”

Main Event

Edge vs. Chris Jericho

With both men in the ring, ref Charles Robinson talks to both men as Mike Tenay reminds us that this is a non-title match. Robinson then calls for the bell and the two men start to pace the ring before locking up. Jericho then backs Edge into the corner, but as Robinson makes them separate Edge connects with a cheeky shot to the head. Jericho though fires back with some of his own, before hitting the ropes and connecting with a jumping forearm shot that takes Edge of his feet. Then as Edge gets to his feet, Jericho connects with some stinging chops to the chest before whipping Edge into the ropes and connecting with a hip toss. Starting to feel the crowd, he pulls Edge up, but Edge connects with some shots to the midsection. Edge then hit’s the ropes and ducks under a wild swing. But as he turns round Jericho connects with a shot to the gut and then a snap suplex. He then starts to pull Edge up, but fails to see Robert Roode charge down the ramp and slide into the ring. Roode then connects with a clubbing blow to the back as Charles Robinson calls for the bell for a DQ. Jericho though starts to fight back, rocking Roode with some hard shots until edge cuts him off with a low blow. As the crowd jeer, a two on one assault occurs, and with Jericho down, Roode slides to the outside to retrieve two chairs. As he enters he hands one to Edge when…..

‘I WALK ALONE!’ The crowd then get to their feet for the arrival of the ‘Animal’, who comes to the ring clearly showing signs of struggle against the pain in his ribs. As he slides into the ring, Edge and Roode start to put the boot in. Batista though pows to his feet and starst to fend them off with some hard blows, followed by a double clothesline. He then pulls Edge up and positions him for the Batista Bomb, only for Roode to crack him in the back with one of the chairs. As Batista drops to his knees in pain, Roode connects with a sharp kick to the back. Edge then stalks….and as Roode pulls Batista up, Edge charges and connects with a Spear. As the jeers continue, Jericho tries to fight his way back to his feet, but Roode cuts him off with a knee to the midsection, and then drops him to the mat with the Roode Awakening. Rated Roode then stand proud in the ring, both men holding their individual championships high as their opponents for Sunday lay strewn on the mat. The show then goes off the air as we hear Mike Tenay saying “My god….another set up. Could we be seeing a glimpse of what is to come this Sunday?”
